About Waterpod

A fresh way of thinking

We design and hand-build high quality, sustainably built floating homes for people who crave simplicity, freedom, and reconnection with nature.

Our houseboats aren’t just places to live — they’re spaces to reconnect. To wake with sunlight dancing on the water. To fall asleep to the gentle movement of the water. To live more deliberately, without noise, stress, or excess — but with comfort, beauty, and ease.

Waterpod began not as a business plan, but as a personal need.
Our founder, Tom Luke, built the first Waterpod as a bold experiment: to see if he could create a beautiful, fully off-grid home that allowed him to live on the water — simply, sustainably, and in tune with nature. That first Waterpod became his full-time home, and it changed his life.

Since then, we’ve refined and scaled the concept, working with master craftspeople, naval engineers, and sustainable materials to build floating homes that tread lightly on the planet while offering everything you need for a life well lived: clean energy, warmth, and quiet.

Sustainability

Every Waterpod is designed to leave a lighter footprint on the world while delivering lasting comfort and performance. We start with smart, durable materials: FSC-certified timber from responsibly managed forests, fully recyclable aluminium, and high-performance recycled composites that turn waste into beauty and function. Every component is selected for its environmental integrity and longevity.

Our floating homes are built to thrive off-grid. With thick insulation and airtight construction, they stay warm in winter and cool in summer, drastically reducing the energy required for heating and cooling. We offer photovoltaic solar systems, heat pumps, and battery storage — giving you clean, independent power without sacrificing convenience.

But sustainability isn’t just about materials or systems. It’s about living closer to nature. Using less, wasting less, and feeling more connected to the environment around you. Waterpods aren’t just homes — they’re part of a new way of thinking about how we live, and what we leave behind.

Proudly designed and built in England

We have assembled a small, highly skilled team of master carpenters, fabricators, M&E specialists, structural and naval engineers, all based in the UK.

Our team hand-builds every Waterpod to order, to meet client requirements and specification in our factory in Berkshire.

We have partnered with leading experts in solar energy, heating and cooling, glazing, specialist building products and more to incorporate the very best, state of the art building products and practices into every Waterpod.

By building locally, we can ensure the highest standards of quality, meet UK regulations and minimize the travel distances to their destinations.

Tom, Founder & Director

Tom Luke is a entrepreneur and water enthusiast.

With a passion for building businesses which have a positive contribution to the environment and quality of life, Tom started Waterpod as he was frustrated that he could not buy a high quality, sustainable and affordable British built floating apartment from anywhere else.

Tom currently lives aboard his Waterpod 50, located in Reading, UK on the river Thames.

Outside of work, Tom enjoys surfing, sailing, scuba diving and paddle boarding.
